A Fine Mid-18th Century Pewter Dish
Having a single reeded rim around the front, and lovely clear touch marks for William Smith impressed to the reverse.
William Smith was a pewterer in York, at the beginning of the 18th century, and was closely associated with Christopher Clifton, also a York pewterer of the same date - perhaps Clifton was apprenticed to William Smith.
Smith's marks are recorded in Cotterell's 'Old Pewter, Its Makers and Marks', number 4402.
York, circa 1730.
Diameter 15 inches.
Ref 485
